Watchtower Parasite Protection

KRITA || ADOBE PREMIERE PRO || HUION INSPIROY The purpose of this project was to try something new and get familiar with 2D animation. I decided to do so in the form of a short TV commercial. I chose a TV commercial to add constraints to the project. When developing skills, I find I learn faster and more effectively when I have to work within some sort of boundary. I force myself to get creative, without having limitless freedom. It's like solving a puzzle. Watchtower Parasite Protection is a flea and tick preventative I created for the focus of this commercial. As you'll see, my idea for the style of the commercial was a "drawn on" or "sketched" look. I wanted the animation to have a lot of life, and the movement of the brush strokes accomplishes that. I created this project using a Huion Inspiroy pen tablet to draw each frame by hand. The drawing and animation were done in Krita. The editing and sound were done in Adobe Premiere Pro. My idea for the plot of the commercial was a watchtower, armed to the teeth, defending a dog from all sorts of bugs and parasites. The idea allowed me to get creative and keep the commercial exciting, while still serving a practical purpose in delivering the companies message. Creating frame-by-frame animations was so time-consuming! It may not studio quality, but I had fun and learned a lot. Enjoy!

First storyboard for the project. Again, story-boarding has helped me tremendously in my projects. Being able to plan everything out ahead of time and have a sort of manual to work from is invaluable. As you'll see, the final cut came out very close to what was in the storyboard planned.

This was a "first look" I created for the project. It also served as an animation test for Krita. This was my first time animating with the program. I needed to know what to expect so I could plan my workflow accordingly.

These are the bad guys in the commercial. I wanted them to have a "big monster attacking the city" feel to them. The concept of zooming the camera up close to the dog's skin really gave me the feel I was looking for.
